This approximately 49,000 SF building housing the Virginia Eye Institute and Dermatology Associates of Virginia is part of the 90-acre Reynolds Crossing mixed-use complex. We were brought in to provide structural engineering services. We’re proud of our ability to be flexible during the design phase of any project. On this project, a late change in the orientation of the elevator shaft affected our initial design for lateral stability and in the need to move beams to reframe the area. Even with the requested change in the elevator orientation, we were able to meet the tight schedule and issue the drawings on time.
Additional structural features included cantilevered floor framing beams used to support a large front canopy, steel post ups utilized to create roof framing screen walls, and cold formed wall studs supported by the building steel frame.
