Given the historic nature and age of Olde Towne Portsmouth and its water and sewer infrastructure in its downtown area, the city took a holistic approach to this maintenance and improvement project by dividing key areas into “Impact Zones,” each providing unique challenges and opportunities.
As a part of the overall Downtown Revitalization Effort, Impact Zone 1, Draper Aden provided surveying scanning and utilities design services for 10,200 LF of 8-inch to 16-inch diameter gravity sewer, 9,530 LF of 8-inch to 16-inch diameter water main, and 920 LF of 12-inch diameter sanitary force main within a 70-acre portion of Downtown Portsmouth. The land use in the project area is heavily developed with mostly commercial properties and City of Portsmouth buildings. In addition to being the designers for the project, we provided program management services during the design and construction phases of the project. As part of these services, we provided detailed construction sequencing plans, construction phasing schedules, and alternative access options for property owners. Draper Aden also assisted the City with public relations matters via public meetings, newsletters, property owner emails, and content for a project specific website.
For Impact Zone 2, we provided surveying, scanning, and utilities design services for rehabilitation/replacement of 15,000 LF of 4-inch to 16-inch diameter water main, 10,000 LF of 8-inch to 16-inch diameter gravity sewer, 2,000 LF of 12-inch diameter sanitary force main, and 13,800 LF of 8-inch to 48-inch storm sewer within a 10 square block area in Olde Towne Portsmouth. As part of the design services, project plans and specifications, detailed construction sequencing plans, and construction phasing schedules were developed.
