DAA Scores Big for Henrico County with Athletic Fields Upgrade

Although Henrico County public schools are quieter for the summer break, there is still a lot of activity on the football fields at Douglas S. Freeman, Hermitage, and Varina high schools. Those schools are the first set of Henrico county high schools to receive a major athletic upgrade as the fields are converted from natural grass to synthetic turf fields. Working with Sports Construction Management, DAA is on the project team responsible for designing and installing the new fields.

Among the updated features include school names and colors on the tracks surrounding the fields and school logos on the 50-yard lines. Improved underground drainage and stormwater controls are further enhancements for the fields. DAA is responsible for designing the underground drainage and stormwater systems. We’re also is providing surveying, site planning, and civil engineering services.

The upgraded fields will provide a safer environment for student athletes, coaches, and spectators. The new turf, improved underground drainage, and stormwater systems also will make the fields more sustainable and durable.

This project highlights DAA’s depth of experience in the athletics sector. We believe that sports field design is about more than a set of plans; it is about creating the experience of fourth and goal, a penalty kick in overtime, a last second game-winning Hail Mary, a home run in the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded, or the celebration of a child’s first victory as part of a youth sports team. Draper Aden Athletics exists to create athletic facilities that provide these breathtaking, edge-of-your-seat moments unique to sports. We engineer the experience for fans, players, parents, and coaches at first class sports facilities where memories are created, dreams are born, and athletic programs flourish.

Construction on the new fields began early this year and will be complete by August 1st, just in time for football practice to begin. Helping to create environments where students can excel in athletic programs reinforces our commitment to leaving a lasting positive impact in the communities we serve.
