VCU Children’s Hospital of Richmond Pavilion

Draper Aden Associates has provided site planning and engineering services to the Virginia Commonwealth University Children’s Hospital of Richmond Pavilion. The 640,000 SF outpatient facility is located on Broad Street in downtown Richmond between 10th and 11th Streets. It is adjacent to the current Children’s Pavilion. The services provided for this project include: site demolition plans, removal of portions of the existing Children’s pavilion, temporary building access and utility services. Public Utility Company– Electric Distribution Underground

Draper Aden Associates, acting as a public utility company’s representative, visits the proposed project area to collect information along the proposed project route to confirm that the preliminary route plan is feasible. From that plan we draft easement plats to coincide with the proposed route for the new underground lines. Using the collected field data, the overhead removal plans are developed and the underground design plan begins. Work includes a presentation concerning stormwater issues facing the College, coordination with DEQ personnel, definition of the MS4 service area, identification of applicable TMDLs, and calculation of Chesapeake Bay TMDL Waste Load Allocations. Virginia Tech Indoor Athletic Training Facility

Support spaces and features include storage, convenience restrooms, videography platforms and audio / video systems. St. Gertrude High School Outdoor Athletics Center

The original concept included a track and field stadium, athletic training facility, and parking to serve the undeveloped property. However, SGHS wanted to explore additional opportunities for use including field and playing surfaces their athletics programs desperately needed. In a collaborative effort between SGHS and Draper Aden Associates, the re-envisioned concept and subsequent design included an artificial turf field, a multi-purpose natural turf field, a softball field, six tennis courts, an athletic training facility, concessions, an events pavilion, and an interpretive walking trail throughout the Outdoor Athletics Center. Our specific scope of services for this project included grading, drainage, utility design (for water, fire, and sewer), environmental impact reporting, erosion and sediment control, and construction phase services. The site design portion of this project was fast-tracked and involved a site demolition/design plans. The constructed building contains an auditorium, a lecture hall, nine classrooms, and serves as office space for the School of Social Work and the Department of English.
