Brownfields Grants Awarded to Greater Williamsburg Region

This brownfields project – which includes City of Williamsburg, James City County, and York County – enables these localities to assess sites, particularly abandoned or run-down ones, for hazardous substances. Gypsy Hill ESAs

[metaslider id=4798]   Highlights Location Staunton, VA Project Manager(s) Mike Lawless, PG Services Provided Environmental Engineering Grant/Funding Assistance Completion Date 2012 Draper Aden Associates assisted the City of Staunton towards their goal of restoring Peyton Creek in Staunton, Virginia to improve the creek’s water quality, strengthen the City’s green infrastructure, encourage desirable redevelopment, provide scenic areas and conserve natural resources. Draper Aden Associates performed Phase I and Phase II ESAs on a portion of the project area known as Gypsy Hill Place where Peyton Creek flows through buried piping. The ESA evaluated the environmental condition of the subject site and provided recommendations for management of identified fill material. The ESA work was completed under a VEDP/DEQ grant, which Draper Aden Associates assisted the City in obtaining. Ray M. Floors Community Park

[metaslider id=4703]   Highlights Location Princeton, NC Project Manager(s) Tyrus Clayton, PE Services Provided DA Economic Development Site Development and Infrastructure Utilities Engineering Grant/Funding Assistance Completion Date 2006 Draper Aden Associates assisted in the location and administration of LWCF, PARTF, and Johnston County grant funding for the complete design of a community park. The utility design for this project included the installation and extension of water service, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer. An asphalt parking lot, pedestrian walkway, azalea garden, children’s playground, toddler playground, various landscaped gardens, picnic shelter with restroom facilities, and an amphitheater were also included in the design. Pulaski Water Treatment Plant Upgrade

[metaslider id=4396]   Highlights Location Pulaski, VA Project Manager(s) Charlie Kreye, PE Services Provided Utilities Engineering Surveying/Scanning Grant/Funding Assistance Completion Date 2014 Based on a Water Treatment Plant Evaluation and Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) conducted by Draper Aden Associates, the Town of Pulaski retained Draper Aden Associates to design recommended upgrades to the Town’s 4.0 MGD Water Treatment Plant. The original plant was constructed in 1951 and a prior upgrade was completed in 1989. Although the 1989 upgrade modernized certain portions of the plant, much of the original equipment remained in place. The PER recommended replacement of raw water and finished water pump systems, installation of emergency generators at the raw water pump station and at the plant, new chemical feed equipment and control systems, replacement of valves and piping in the filter gallery and a sludge dewatering facility. Town of Pulaski Brownfields Highlights Location Pulaski, VA Project Manager(s) Mike Lawless, PG Services Provided DA Economic Development Environmental Engineering Grant/Funding Assistance Completion Date Ongoing As a community service project, Draper Aden Associates worked with citizen members of the Town of Pulaski’s Economic Development Board for about a year to develop a grant proposal to fund the investigation of abandoned and deteriorating industrial sites, known as Brownfields, in the community. The grant proposal was successfully approved for expanded program funding through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, in the amount of $200,000. Subsequent to procurement, Draper Aden Associates was awarded a contract by the Town to begin the process of evaluating existing Brownfields sites for reuse as public facilities and/or for redevelopment as viable residential, commercial, industrial or mixed-use properties. The project concentrated on two target areas: (1) the Historic Downtown Commercial District located near the center of Town, and (2) the Pulaski South Historical Residential and Industrial District, also known as Southside....
